Character Name; Edward Elric
Series/Fandom; FullMetal Alchemist

Age; 11
Gender; Male
Species; Human
Sexuality; Just beginning to explore that; will most likely be played as bisexual/confused

Appearance; Edward the 11 year old is a growing boy: he may be on the slightly shorter side for a boy his age, but not yet by much. His usual attire is a tee-shirt, shorts, and sandals, a typical outfit for an active boy in the countryside.

His eyes are an intelligent gold and he wears his equally golden hair short, though with long bangs that frame his face. When he arrives in Paradisim, he will be missing the lower half of his left leg.

Personality; Edward is a typically curious 11 year old, constantly questioning the world around him and seeking new answers and ideas to things he doesn't know or understand. Being scientifically inclined, this especially applies to the nature of the world and how it works, and Edward loves nothing more than to study alchemy and view the world through alchemist eyes. He is always eager to know more, and is willing to work hard to gain knowledge. If an answer isn't readily available to him, he will find his own answer through experimentation.

He is extremely intelligent, having begun his learning of alchemy at a surprisingly young age. Edward took to the subject like a fish to water, and quickly picked up the complicated concepts of the science. Part of this was due to his determination to put a smile on his mother's face: whenever he and Al engaged in alchemy, she would watch them with a happy smile, so proud of her little boys and how much they took after their absent father.

Ed has an incredibly stubborn streak. When he gets an idea in his head, he is impossible to shake from the path he has chosen. For example, Edward stubbornly hates his father, despite the fact that his mother loves him, but because of the sad and wistful look that settles on her face whenever she thinks about him. Ed is incredibly devoted to his mother and his younger brother Al, and takes on all the anger at his father for leaving Ed's loved ones.

Abilities/Strengths; Edward's main ability is alchemy: he knows many different circles and is very gifted at performing transmutations. During his time in Paradisim he will learn that he has the ability to perform circle-less transmutations, due to having visited the gate. He isn't aware of this yet, and it will take some time for him to gain full control of this ability.

Ed is also disciplined in hand-to-hand combat, though he is always bested by Alphonse. He was taught by Izumi Curtis, who told the boys that in order to train the mind, one must first train the body. He has developed wiry muscles, quick speed, and swift attacks through her rigorous training.

He has an incredibly strong heart, capable of much love and compassion, strength and courage. Some boys his age would not be able to go through what Ed has endured if they had not the strength of Edward's heart.

Weaknesses; His main weakness right now is the fact that he just lost half of his leg. Edward is a cripple, when he used to be a fully healthy young man. This will slow him down both mentally and physically for quite some time.

Other weaknesses include his age, height, experience. Edward also has a short temper and is easily set off. He hates milk, which leaves him open -especially later in life- to short jokes.

And his family, who at the moment of his arrival he believes he has lost entirely, is Ed's deepest weakness.

Notable Possessions; None.

History; Edward is the first child of Hohenhiem and Trisha Elric. His younger brother Alphonse was born a year after him, and a year after that Hohenhiem left them, so Ed and Al were raised by their mother.

When Ed was six and Al was five, they managed to enter their father's study, a room that was supposed to be off-limits but one they sneaked into anyhow. Edward immediately went for the books, and when Trisha found them, it was under a pile of alchemy books. After that incident, the two boys couldn't be torn away from their father's books, and they were constantly surprising their mother and their neighbors the Rockbells with their progress. Their childhood friend Winry, however, was rather spooked the first time they performed alchemy in front of her, but this didn't discourage them in their pursuit of knowledge and education.

When the boys were nine and ten, their mother fell deathly ill. Ed wrote numerous letters to his father, sending them across Amestris, begging him to return. He was certain that if only their father returned, Trisha would get well again. But the letters never reached him, or he never replied, and soon after, Trisha was dead.

On the evening of her funeral, as they sat by their mother's tombstone, the closest they could ever get to her again, the boys wondered what they would do now without her. It was then that Edward promised Al that they would find a way to use alchemy to bring her back to live. They would find a tutor to train them better in the science, and meanwhile they would develop a theory of how to transmute her a new body and a new soul, so they wouldn't have to live without her.

Soon after, during a flood, Ed and Al met Izumi Curtis, an alchemist passing through their village on her way back home in Dublith. They begged her to train them in alchemy, and because they were both so stubborn and determined, she relented and took them in for a year, making them undergo intense physical and mental training. The work paid off, and a year later they returned to Risembool, feeling confident that they would soon accomplish their dream.

They gathered all the materials that compose a full-grown human body, added their own drops of blood for her soul, and drew the transmutation circle on the floor of their father's lab. It was going to work!

But it didn't. Edward lost his leg to the transmutation...and all of Al. He was brought before a large pair of doors, and was shown what he could only call the "Truth". He nearly found the answer he sought when he was returned to the lab. Through the mist, he could see something moving, and for a moment he was certain the transmutation had succeeded...but then the smoke cleared, and he saw a creature, vaguely humanoid and turned inside out, lying in the middle of the room. It looked nothing like his mother, and Al...was nowhere to be found.

Taking what he had learned from the "Gate", Edward used his own blood to draw a circle on the inside of a nearby suit of armor, then placed them on his arms, his remaining leg, and his bare chest, and went back before the gate, begging it to return his brother to him. He offered up his arms, his legs, "even my heart", he said, if only the Gate would give him Al back. "He's the only brother I have!" he cried.

But before the price was paid and Al's soul delivered to him, Ed blacked out, and woke up on the airship to Paradisim.
